-
What is a body composition analysis and why is it taken during consultation?
Body composition analysis provides a clearer picture of your health and fitness status. It shows your total body weight, muscle mass balance, and body fat distribution, among others. While effective for weight loss, these medications can sometimes result in muscle loss, making it crucial to adopt a holistic approach that includes exercise and proper nutrition. We take your body composition analysis during your appointment to monitor key metrics like fat percentage and muscle mass, ensuring your weight loss journey is both safe and effective. Healthy weight loss isn't about shedding kilos quickly but about losing weight sustainably while preserving muscle mass. -
For video consultation, how will my body composition analysis be taken?
After your video consultation, you can schedule an in-clinic appointment for a body composition scan during our operating hours. Simply inform the team that you'd like to come in for measurements, and they will assist you in booking the appointment.
About the medications
-
How can weight loss medications help me lose weight?
Weight loss medications help you lose weight by:- Reducing cravings. They overhaul your “hunger and craving hormones” working on the reward center of the brain.
- Suppressing appetite. The medication slows down gastric emptying, making you eat less, feel full longer, and lose weight.
- Preventing overeating. It lowers blood sugar, reducing cravings and slowing digestion, preventing you from overeating.
- Decreasing body fat percentage. Reduce body weight mainly from body fat mass.
-
How long do I need to take weight loss medications?
When people first start to take weight loss medications, they tend to lose weight rather quickly. After a few months, the weight loss starts to slow down. Eventually, people reach a stable weight on these medications.
Some people become concerned when they reach this weight loss plateau. They may believe that the weight loss medication has stopped working because they aren’t losing weight anymore. However, this weight loss plateau is normal and expected. If a person were to continue to lose weight indefinitely, they would eventually become unhealthy. It’s actually a good thing for your weight to stabilize at some point. -
Should I stop taking weight loss medications once my weight is stable?
Upon reaching a stable weight, remaining on these medications can help many people to maintain a healthy and stable body weight. This is one of the major benefits of long-term use of weight loss medications.
However, there are some individuals who are able to successfully maintain their weight after going off weight loss medications. Whether this is possible for you will need to be discussed with your treating physician. -
What are other benefits of weight loss medications?
- Helps control blood sugar. These medications have been shown to control blood sugar effectively, making them an attractive option for many diabetes patients.
- Reduction in risk of heart disease and kidney failure. These weight loss medications have been shown to be cardioprotective, meaning that they reduce the risk of heart disease.
-
How do I get the most benefit from these weight loss medications?
To maximize its effectiveness, it is recommended to work on optimizing your diet and physical activity levels together with taking the medication.
Improving your diet quality and physical fitness will help with glucose control, make you feel more energetic, and help you get the most out of your day. It will also help to sustain the weight loss you experience.
NOVI Health strongly believes in empowering individuals to improve their diet and fitness, and our team can help you create a personalized plan to complement your treatment. -
What are the benefits of long-term use of weight loss medications?
In addition to helping maintain a healthy body weight, weight loss medications help to keep blood sugar under control. This effect appears to last for the long term.
For people living with type 2 diabetes, keeping blood sugar under control can help to reduce the risk of long-term health effects such as heart disease and kidney disease. In addition, people taking these weight loss medications have been found to have significantly lower blood pressure than those taking a placebo.
Recent studies have also found benefits for those experiencing heart failure. Over one year, people taking weight loss medications experienced significantly greater improvements in symptoms and physical function than those taking a placebo.
